Your moving to Rancho Cucamonga checklist
Everything my clients handle before and after closing — utilities, DMV deadlines, school registration, trash days and the local details nobody tells you. Print it, share it, work it top to bottom.
8–12 weeks out
- Get a lender pre-approval so your budget is real, not estimated
- Shortlist 2–3 neighborhoods based on commute and school boundaries
- Request school-boundary confirmation directly from the district, not a listing site
- Start comparing renters/homeowners insurance — foothill fire zones price differently
- Book a discovery call so we can time your search to your move date
4–6 weeks out
- Book movers (summer weekends in the Inland Empire fill early)
- Schedule utilities: SoCal Edison (power), SoCalGas, CVWD or city water, Burrtec trash
- Set up internet — Spectrum, Frontier Fiber and AT&T availability varies street to street
- Submit school registration paperwork: birth certificate, immunizations, proof of residency
- Order change of address with USPS and update your bank, employer and insurance
Closing week
- Final walkthrough — I attend for out-of-state buyers and send video
- Wire funds only after verbally confirming instructions with escrow by phone
- Confirm keys, gate remotes, garage codes, HOA portal and mailbox key
- Take meter photos and note the water shut-off and electrical panel location
First 30 days in Rancho
- California DMV: register your vehicle within 20 days, license within 10 days of residency
- Register to vote in San Bernardino County
- Confirm trash, recycling and green-waste days with Burrtec and get your bins
- Get a Rancho Cucamonga library card — one of the best-funded systems in the region
- Find your people: rec leagues at Central Park, Victoria Gardens events, farmers market
- Save my number for contractor, handyman, HVAC and landscaper referrals
